A WOMAN and her child had to be cut out of their car following a crash in Basildon.

Two crews from Basildon fire station were called to Nevendon Road at 4.23pm and used to sets of cutting equipment to release the casualties from the blue Peugeot by 5.03pm by cutting off the roof.

The Peugeot had been involved in a slow-moving collision with a red van at traffic lights and both driver and passenger were medically trapped with suspected spinal injuries.

Both were left in the care of the ambulance service.
