A MAN was taken to hospital after being knocked down by a car in Southend yesterday.

The man, in his thirties, reportedly got off a bus in Sutton Road, near the junction with Coleman Street, at around 4.45pm and was struck by a car.

The ambulance service were called and he was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the service said: "We were called to Sutton Road at 4.46pm to a report of a man who had been hit by a car.

"We sent an ambulance crew who were on scene in two minutes.

"We treated a man in his thirties who was conscious and breathing.

"He had suffered bruising to his legs and ribs and was taken to Southend Hospital for further treatment.

"His injuries were not thought to be serious or life threatening."
