A DESPERATE mum battling two types of blood cancer has been given a glimmer of hope.

Jessica Purser, 30, has been accepted on a clinical trial for a new drug, which is being part-funded by Oxford University.

She will be only the second person in the country to try out the treatment.

The Echo revealed last month Jessica, who grew up in Grove Road, Benfleet, but recently moved to Collingwood, South Woodham Ferrers, launched a bid to raise at least £50,000 to buy herself more time with her beloved three year-old daughter Darcy.

Jessica planned to pay for treatment in America after the NHS ruled out a stem cell transplant because her cancer was too advanced.

Nearly £25,000 has been raised by well-wishers in just six weeks, and Jessica will now use the money to pay for her and Darcy to stay in Oxford.

She will also fund alternative therapy alongside the trial drug inabid to increase her chances of survival.

Jessica said: “It sounds promising although a tad scary, but at least it’sastep in the right direction to hopefully getting better. If not, then my contribution may help others in the future.

“It is a revolutionary drug which does not have the same side effects as chemotherapy, so no hair loss and sickness, just tiredness. If this does not work I am still planning to go to America for another drug which has better cure rates.”

Jessica was originally told she had pulled a muscle, before, nine months later, being diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma and a tumour that spread across her chest.

Doctors at St Barts Hospital, in London, later discovered she had also developed nonHodgkins lymphoma.

Jessica is now focusing on spending as much time with Darcy as possible, and has used donations to buy a video camera so the memories they make together can live on forever.

She has also created a memory box full of photographs, perfume, keepsakes, and letters for Darcy to read at certain milestones in the future.

If she is unable to find a cure, the fund will be used to support Darcy once Jessica has gone. To makeadonation, visit gofundme.com/z6emcgs
