Farleigh Hospice has been awarded £46,400 by BBC Children in Need.

The new funding will allow Farleigh Hospice, based in Chelmsford, to deliver vital bereavement services to young people who have been affected by loss.

Through one-to-one support, counselling and group activity sessions, the project aims to reduce anxiety, increase resilience and help young people develop robust coping mechanisms.

Since 2005 the Farleigh Hospice has received nearly £400,000 in funding from BBC Children in Need, all made possible by the on-going generosity of the Great British public.

Through its current grant alone, the project is expected to benefit the lives of some 170 local young people.

This week BBC Children in Need also announced the final total for its 2014 Appeal: an incredible £49.1 million.

This money is already starting to make a difference through the most recent grant allocations. More grants will be announced in the coming months.

Kerry Luker, BBC Children in Need Regional Manager of London and the South East says: “We are delighted to be awarding funding to projects like Farleigh Hospice which will go on to make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the area.

"The support we get each year is staggering and everyone should feel proud of what they have made possible. Thank you!”

Speaking of the news David Ramsden, Chief Executive of BBC Children in Need said: “Thanks to the fantastic support of people in Chelmsford and across the whole UK, we have had another incredible year.

"Your generosity is helping us to change lots of young lives and you should be truly proud. Thank you.”

Life President of BBC Children in Need, Sir Terry Wogan added: “The generosity of the public has shone through once again, taking us to another exceptional figure.

"Every single penny of this will go to projects working with disadvantaged children and young people, right here in the UK.

"The Charity has come a long way since its first total of £1 million, and we couldn’t have done it without you.”
