POLICE want to track down two good samaritans who helped a woman after she was assaulted.

The victim was attacked by a man and had her mobile phone stolen in Laindon on Friday, May 15.

The assault took place in Copperfields at about 11.40pm.

Investigating officer PC Simon Kirk said: "After this assault two men helped the victim and I am appealing for them to contact me.

"One of the men chased after the suspect and retrieved the stolen mobile phone while the other checked on the victim."

A 44-year-old man from Basildon was arrested on suspicion of assault within half an hour of the incident.

He was later released on police bail until June 26, pending further enquiries.
