Love reading books about foreign countries? Like to find out more about the amazing treasure trove of reading on offer? Going abroad this summer and looking for a book set in that country?

If so, then you won't want to miss a fascinating afternoon set up by the organisers of the Year of Reading Dangerously project and Essex Libraries.

Heather Reyes said: 'We love reading books by UK and American authors but over the last couple of years have seen our horizons broaden to take in more books in translation from other countries.

'The Reading Dangerously exhibition was recently held in Chelmsford Library and profiled sixty of the very best novels from across the world.

"We're also running a series of events with well-known authors like Helen Dunmore, Moniza Alvi and Sander Jakobsen - Ann Morgan, author of Reading the World: Confessions of a Literary Explorer, appeared at the Essex Book Festival last month.

"Our passion was fuelled with the publishing of our city-pick series, featuring some of the best writing from favourite world cities, from Berlin and Paris to Istanbul and St Petersburg, a good deal of it in translation.

"By working with writers and translators from various countries, our eyes were opened to the wealth of exciting reading out there - with something to suit every reading taste!

"We'll be talking about the extraordinary range of international writing available but also asking book groups and others to offer us all their suggestions and tips for great reads in translation."

A Year of Reading Dangerously will be held in Chelmsford Library in Market Road on Saturday 30 May, 2.30 - 4.30pm with afternoon tea and refreshments.

It will be an ideal opportunity to meet readers from other book groups - and to discover some great guaranteed reads.
