A REWARD of up to £3,000 has been offered for information leading to the conviction of the person responsible for an acid attack in Thundersley.

Crimestoppers announced the reward today following the attack on Darren Pidgeon, 27, on June 3 as he was driving home from Rayleigh Weir roundabout towards Thundersley.

He was involved in an encounter with a red Rover, registration R200 SRM, which then followed him to Kingsmere, which is a dead end.

When both vehicles stopped, a male passenger got out of the Rover and approached the driver’s side of the victim’s car.

He then squirted an acid substance in his face and threw some punches, before getting back into the Rover before the female driver drove away.

The crime fighting charity is now offering a reward of up to £3,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Ann Scott, Crimestoppers’ eastern regional manager, said: “This awful attack has left a man with serious injuries and requiring painful surgery.

“I can’t imagine what a devastating impact this has had on Darren and his family.

“We urge anyone who may know what happened on that day to call Crimestoppers anonymously.

“We will never ask for your name or take any personal details and significantly you’ll never have to give a statement to police or go to court.

"So please, do the right thing and tell us what you know.”

Contact Crimestoppers anonymously with any information on 0800 555 111 or through an anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org

Information passed directly to police will not qualify for the full reward.
