Thurrock council is asking the public for their views on possible major changes to Grays traffic flows.

The proposals include opening up Orsett Road to two-way traffic from Stanley Road to Derby Road and allowing full two-way access under the Derby Road bridge in Crown Road.

The consulation will run from Friday February 20 to Friday April 3.

Transport portfolio holder, Councillor Oliver Gerrish, said: “For over a decade we’ve all moaned about the Grays one-way system, the problems of getting to the multi-storey car park – and out again – and various other little niggles.

“In these days when we are encouraging people to walk or cycle to and from town, we also need improvements for those on bicycles.

“We have come up with a proposal and now we want to know what local people, local businesses and the bus and taxi operators think.”

Councillor Gerrish added: “This is a genuine attempt to come up with a plan that we think answers those complaints and niggles. If you think differently, let us know."

“No decisions have been made. I want to say that this is a real consultation and we want everybody to have their say.”

Members of the public who wish to make their views known can visit the council website at www.thurrock.gov.uk/travel.

Staff from the council’s transport team will also be at the Grays Shopping Centre on Wednesday, March 4 with large maps and diagrams, as well as at Civic Offices, Grays on March 9 between 5pm and 8pm.

Paper copies of the consultation are also available at the Civic Offices reception and Grays Library.
