DP World’s London Gateway broke new ground today with a ceremony to open building on a new 300,000 foot warehouse in its logistics park.

The ceremony was attended by DP World and Prologis chief executives to mark the start of the new ‘tri-modal’ site in Europe’s largest logistics park.

‘Tri-modal’ means that people can use the facility by sea, rail and road.

The warehouse is scheduled to be ready by the third quarter of 2015 and has the potential to bring 100 full-time jobs.

Hamid Moghadam, Prologis Chairman and CEO, said: “This represents the future of the logistics industry. Demand has been strong in this market and this will cater to customers who want state-of-the-art distribution facilities.”

Mohammed Sharaf, DP World Group Chief Executive, added: “It’s a significant step in creating more efficient supply chains for the UK.”

The distribution centre will be 15 metres high and single-sided and has been designed with a 55 metre yard and space for expansion.

The building is a joint venture between DP World, one of the world’s largest port operators, and Prologis, the global leader in industrial real estate.

DP World London Gateway Port is the U.K.’s most advanced deep-water container terminal.
