A FUND in aid of a mum-of-two who had her legs and fingers amputated has topped £100,000 thanks to a single generous donation.

Tracy Ralph, 35, from Hawkwell underwent the amputations after contracting meningitis in December and remains in a high dependency ward at St Thomas Hospital, London.

A fund was set up by sister-in-law Amanda Ralph on January 19 with an initial target of £100,000 to “help Tracy get back on her feet”. This was smashed yesterday(thurs) when family friend Matt Kent donated £5,000 with the words “best wishes with your care in the future, your friend for ever.”

The total had been at £98,400 the previous day.

Nineteen other people had also made donations by 4pm yesterday and, with the total raised now at more than £104,870, Tracy’s family have revised their target to £250,000.

Sheffield-based prosthetics company Blatchford, which provides clinical services to the NHS as well as the military and private sectors, has come forward to offer Tracy running blades though she will still need NHS prostheses for walking.

Amanda said: “Matt knows Brad’s brothers and we’re absolutely amazed at all the donations - it’s absolutely fantastic.

“We never really know what to say because I never thought in my wildest dreams it would exceed £10,000, never mind £100,000, in just over a week.

“It’s going to be a long process of recovery for Tracy though and, while we didn’t want to look ungrateful, we put the target up because so many people were asking us why we weren’t doing it because she’s going to need so much and we don’t even know what any of that is going to cost.”
