Thurrock apprentices shed tears of joy after the Mayor Cllr Steve Liddiard praised them for their achievements.

The eight young people, one of whom has been nominated for Apprentice of the Year, gathered to celebrate the progress of their Estate Services Apprenticeships.

The event was held on January 14.

The Mayor, commenting on the young people's progress said: ”It is obvious to me and all who were here today that these young people are a real credit to Thurrock and an inspiration to others."

“I have heard they have gone above and beyond their regular duties and their attitude and work ethics are truly outstanding."

Jack Wilson, who has been nominated for the Apprentice of the Year, said: “There have been many highs during my time on the apprenticeship course, but my proudest moment by far is being nominated for an award by management as it shows that they believe in me. I am looking forward to a great future ahead of me.”

A number of the current team at Estate Services are expected to retire, with the apprentices due to replace them.

The eight young people are seven months into their yearlong programme towards gaining the City and Guilds Level Two Cleaning and Support Services qualification.

The apprentices, who have already received a of number highly regarded industry qualifications, told an audience how they had faced challenges, developed new skills and were excited about what the future held.
