A man has died in a two-car collision in North Road, South Ockendon yesterday.

The 77-year-old man from Upminster was driving a blue Ford Focus estate in the collision, and paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident which involved a blue Ford Focus estate and a black Ford Kuga.

It happened at around 8.15pm on Thursday, January 22.

The driver of the black Ford Kuga, a 50-year-old South Ockendon woman, was taken to the Royal London Hospital for treatment for injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

Five fire crews attended the scene, two from Grays and three from London, two cut the two victims free from the wreckage. Both drivers were trapped in their cars, but were cut free by 9pm.

The road was closed for around six hours whilst the vehicles were recovered and investigations were carried out at the scene.
