A REGENERATION of Grays town centre could see the introduction of a new road layout to improve movement in and out of the town.

Under proposals from the council, a number of roads and junctions would be completely altered to allow traffic to flow like it once is used to.

Included in the proposals would be the two-way working of Orsett Road between the Thameside Theatre and Stanley Road junction, allowing a right hand turn into Stanley Road and the relocation of the bus stop to allow for free-flow traffic.

A number of other ideas are being explored by the council, including a cycle scheme which would link Crown Road, with Stanley and Clarence Street and Orsett Road.

At a Thurrock Council meeting last night (17th), councillors also discussed the continuing plans to install an underpass where the level crossing currently sits at the top of the High Street.

The council and Network Rail recently agreed a Memorandum of Understanding to undertake the work.

Council leader John Kent said: “We already know about the college which opened in September, the works to the Magistrates’ Court and the building of new homes at Seabrooke Rise which well on the way to completion, bringing new homes and jobs to the town.”

He added: “When you put all of these projects together, there can be no doubt Thurrock Council is working hard to ensure the future of Grays – and the future of the borough as a whole – is a bright one.”
