THREE men have appeared in court charged with domestic abuse offences as police target offenders in the run-up to Christmas.

They have been sentenced as part of work by the Domestic Abuse Unit which covers Southend, Basildon, Rochford and Castle Point.

Police want to get the message out to the community they will take strong action over the festive period, when domestic abuse can increase, but also victims are less likely to report it.

Their work joins up with Essex County Council’s Don’t Delay Act Today campaign, which encourages victims to not carry on suffering and instead act now to seek help.

Chief Insp Glen Westley, said: “Our team operates seven days a week to investigate all allegations of domestic abuse across the four areas.

“We hope there won’t be a spike in the run-up to Christmas, but we encourage victims to come forward and report domestic abuse.

Victims will always receive the utmost support.”
