THE next big pop star could be located in Chafford Hundred, through an X Factor-style competition.

The Chafford Hundred Choir has launched its first such contest, with the finals taking place later this month.

The competition is being held in a bid to help Thurrock-based charity, the Karis May Darling Foundation, which devotes its work to helping disadvantaged children.

Choir leader, JB Rose, who has previously coached X Factor contestants and is a professional singer and songwriter, has organised the competition.

She said: “It is a charity event which we decided to do because this year we wanted to give something back.

“The choir, which started last year, has such a great variety of people, from youngsters aged 14 to pensioners, and it is a great way to show our local talent.

“We’ve decided to help a local charity because they do great work and provide support to youngsters and families.”

The 10 finalists will go head to head on Saturday, December 20, at the Drake Community Centre, in Drake Road, Chafford Hundred.

The contest will be judged by JB and Paulette Long, a music industry veteran of 28 years.

The winner will get a professional recording session.

Tickets to watch the contest are priced at £5 and under 12s can enter for free.
