THREE shows at Hylands Park this month have been cancelled after the promoter deemed the venue “unfit for purpose”.

Organisers UK Events and Productions scrapped plans this week to host Wet Wet Wet, the Flashback Festival and The Last Night of the Proms.

However, the council insists the site is in an ”appropriate condition”.

A spokesman for UK Events, said: “The site was recently used for V and after a recent site visit we do not feel that the area within the park we are using is acceptable to put on our concerts. UK Events prides itself on putting on quality outdoor concerts and we feel that going forward with these event would harm our reputation and potentially spoil consumers experience.”

However, a council spokeswoman said: “The cancellation is not at the request of the council or due to any issues under its control. The council does not accept the reason given for the cancellation is based on the ground conditions and feels that this statement is very misleading.”
