A FORMER apprentice has climbed the ranks to become a manager.

Rob Tilney, 21, embarked on a customer service apprenticeship with Rates Ford, in Hogg Lane, in February 2011.

He progressed to customer service adviser before moving to Quick Lane tyre and autocentre, in Hogg Lane, and has now been promoted to management.

Mr Tilney said: “The apprenticeship taught me so much.

“I took a lot from it and, thanks to the support and help of my colleagues at Rates Ford, have been given the opportunity to take on a range of different positions and develop these skills.”

The manager enrolled on a college course after completing his GCSEs, but was keen to undertake the apprenticeship, led by Skillnet – an organisation which offers training in a range of disciplines.

Mr Tilney added: “I went to college but didn’t really know what I wanted to do. When the apprenticeship opportunity arose, I knew it was for me and took up the offer straight away.”
