Yesterday, camera crews battled the elements as filming continuedon Southend Pier for Jamie Oliver’s TV programme Jamie and Jimmy’s Food Fight Club.

Braintree and Witham Times: TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp makes FHM's 100 Sexiest Women list

Wind and rain lashed down as Jamie and co-host Jimmy Doherty were joined by guest for the day, TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp. Kirstie’s appearance followed that of Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden and Hollywood star Sienna Miller earlier in the week.

Braintree and Witham Times:

On the pier was big Jamie fan Richard Bloomberg, 37, of Southchurch who was undeterred and had been waiting all day to get a picture with the celebrity chef. Richard said: “He’s an inspiration.

“He’s very adaptable and shows that it’s OK for guys to cook.

“Because of him, more guys are now cooking and baking.

“It’s good that someone as high profile as him comes to Southend and help to put it on the map.”

Esther Whittaker, 80, was visiting from Weybridge, in Surrey.

She said: “Anything that’s done to help promote Southend has to be good.Ithought Southend was finished as a resort, but if this kind of thing helps to promote it, then I’m all for it.”

I like Bolt, potentially the greatest athelite ever if he does the double in Rio.

Although I cant say much for Holden/Oliver nor that cheeky cow from surrey slagging off southend, no one asked her to come.

Great promotion for Southend, depending on how you have your screen set up. On mine, if you scroll so as the picture of Amanda Holden is at the top of the screen then it looks like a caption saying Esther Whittaker, 80, was visiting from Weybridge, in Surrey.
She don't look bad for 80.

Are you suggesting that's what he was paid to appear on the pier (so to speak)? Quite extraordinary if true...

These "appearance fees" are what these celebs ask if you wanted them to turn up to your private or corporate function. They are, also, often negotiable. TV programmes, however, will never pay anywhere remotely near this amount and will often dictate the fee they are willing to pay. The fee any programme pays is always dependent on how desperate the programme wants this celeb to appear, what the celeb is likely be required to do etc... It is even a lot, lot cheaper if the celeb has something to promote or need to "up" their profile. In fact is is known that a lot of TV programmes, especially chat based shows, will only choose such celebs because it is ultra cheap for them to do so.
I suspect bet Bolt would have got paid very little to appear on this Jamie Oliver show.
