Supermarkets in the district will be taking advantage of relaxed Sunday trading restrictions during the Olympics to open for longer.
Sunday trading laws, which only allow large shops to open for six hours on a Sunday, have been suspended up until September 9, when the Paralympic Games finish.
All four Tesco stores in the Braintree and Witham area are taking advantage of the relaxation and will be opening from 9am until 8pm during this period.
But Sainsbury’s, in Toft’s Walk, Braintree, will be maintaining its regular Sunday hours this summer.
