Burnham: Council refuse to empty man's dustbin Burnham: Council refuse to empty man's dustbin

A DISABLED man is angry after his pro-active approach to ridding the streets of his rubbish was rebuffed by the council on health and safety grounds.

Rob Cuthbert, 67, of Roman Way, Burnham, paid £35 to buy a wheeled bin after growing tired of tidying up after foxes, cats and other animals which attack his black rubbish sacks.

The blue badge holder, who has had mobility problems since suffering a stroke ten years ago, said he had hoped the bin, which he put out for the first time on Monday, would be emptied by contractors as part of the usual collections.

But he was dismayed when his rubbish was not taken.

Maldon District Council said its contractors could not collect from wheeled bins because the majority of their vehicles are not fitted with bin lifts.
