POLICE officers formed a guard of honour to say goodbye to a special colleague who sadly passed away aged 80.
Special Inspector Barbara Northover sadly passed away at home in September and her family, friends and fellow Special Constables said their goodbyes at her funeral this month.
A group of serving Colchester Special Constables formed a guard of honour.
Barbara is fondly remembered in Essex Police for her amazing contribution of 35 years’ service as a Special Constable.
While working as a legal secretary for a local legal company, Barbara began volunteering with Essex Police in Colchester.
She quickly climbed the ranks to Special Inspector at a time when policing for women was very different to policing now.
Barbara led a team of Special Constables and carried out regular patrols in Colchester, where she respected and admired by the officers and Specials Constables she worked with and the public she served.
She retired from Essex Police 20 years ago but remained in close contact with many Special Constables.
At the service, Barbara was fondly remembered by her family, police officers and Special Constables, who celebrated her life and the remarkable voluntary service she gave to the people of Essex.
