AN all-weather pitch is getting a £5,500 refurbishment in a bid to keep it usable.

The 3G astro pitch at Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles leisure centre in Low Road has been there for about 15 years.

It needs replacing but Tendring Council said this series of work will keep it going for 12 to 18 months while long-term options are drawn up.

The work, to include repairing the surface, is due to be completed by the autumn, in time for the new hockey and football seasons.

Mick Skeels, Tendring's cabinet member for Leisure and Tourism, said it was to be recognised the work was a stop-gap.

“We know the pitch is coming to the end of its life, and want to look at sensible ways forward for the pitch in the future,” he said.

“This short-term repair will extend the life of the current pitch, meaning there is no gap in provision while we look at future options.”
