A POPULAR radio station has called on the public to help come up with its new name.

Saint FM ceased broadcasting two months ago and ended its final show with a 24 hour fundraiser for its new facilities.

Broadcast regulator Ofcom has awarded the station a new license in order to transmit across a larger area in Maldon, Burnham and the Dengie.

Now the radio team have launched a competition to give the station a new name ahead of its move to a new building.

The station will also broadcast from a new frequency.

The competition, named Name That Radio Station, will be running until midnight on Friday, July 6.

According to the competitions rules, the name should; be original, imaginative, easy to remember; be ideally short; be unused by any other commercial brand or station; be good for making jingles and lend itself to a neat, strong colour logo.

They have also specified that it can be “off-the-wall” and it could reflect the area but not involve place names.

The competition has been set up by the Board of St Peters Studios and Community Radio Ltd.

In the terms and conditions, it says: “the competition is open to all residents of the Maldon district.

“Entrance to the competition is free.

“Maximum three entries per entrant and any additional suggestions will be discounted.

“All entrants must provide their full name, contact number and either the name of the town or village in which they live or their school name.”
