A GRANDFATHER who is battling cancer says he is incredibly proud of his granddaughter after she had her head shaved.

Robert Williams’ granddaughter, Caitlin Williams-Macklin, has

already smashed her £1,000 fundraising target for Prostate Cancer UK with the current figure sitting at more than £2,000.

The 16-year-old, who attends the Colchester Sixth Form College, was inspired to try and raise some cash by her grandfather who is battling the disease.

As well as undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, Mr Williams, of Skiddaw Close, Witham, has also faced kidney cancer and spinal compression as a result of the illness.

He said: “We so often hear about negative things young people are

doing but I think this shows our young people are there for us and will look after us.

“I’m so proud of Caitlin and it was brilliant to be there as she had it done.

“I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone who’s given some money and also to the college for all of its help in organising.”

Caitlin had her hair cut and shaved by her long-time hairdresser and said she was getting used to her shorter look.

She said: “All of my friends and family say it suits me but I’m not thinking about it in that way because it’s all about raising the money for charity.

“It’s just so fantastic that so many people have got behind me and helped me raise so much.”

Cailtin said she had been inspired to raise the cash by her grandfather’s battle.

She said: “He was trembling as it was being done and it’s so good to know he’s so proud of me.

“I haven’t got any plans at the moment but I think I will do more fundraising in the future but it will be for something other than Prostate Cancer UK.”
