A former Maldon Rugby Union FC player will be riding 100 miles on his bike for charity.

Avid cyclist Colin Edmond is entered for the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 on Sunday, July 29.

Mr Edmond is raising funds for Rugby Football Union’s Injured Players Foundation.

He has been the appointments secretary for Suffolk and North Essex Referees Society for more than 20 years.

As a former Maldon RFC player, he continues to support rugby as coordinator of referees for rugby in the area as well as a substitute referee.

He is also a member of the Maldon Cycling Club and does regular time trials.

Celebrating the legacy for cycling created by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside.

The challenge is on the same closed roads as the professionals, with the added incentive of raising money for good causes.

The RFU Injured Players foundation is an organisation that supports players who have suffered serious injury playing rugby.

Their work includes injury prevention research, education and training to keep everyone safer on the field.

They also support the families and help with rehabilitation.
