New visitor information points have been unveiled across Maldon and the Dengie.

Maldon District Council created the info points at five locations as part of the Dengie Gateway project.

The project aims to drive tourism in the district.

The first two Saltmarsh Coast Visitor Information Hubs at Heybridge Basin and Tollesbury were unveiled earlier this month.

They aim to provide “enhanced” visitor information and include audio.

Henry Bass, chairman of the council, Penny Channer, chairman of the planning and licensing committee and Paul Jeffries, chairman of the Blackwater Coastal Community Team launched the Heybridge point.

Mrs Channer said: “Recent figures have shown again just how important tourism is to our economy and how vital it is to support local jobs and incomes.

“Working in partnership with the Blackwater Coastal Community Team, this visitor hub is designed to inspire visitors, and residents, to discover more of the Saltmarsh Coast at any time of year.

“The content of the hub is designed to be informative and exciting; the new audio post provides engaging audio information and the visitor counter provides our tourism team with useful visitor and usage information.”

Mr Jeffries said: "Heybridge Basin is a great place to visit and very popular with locals and visitors, we want to encourage people to discover more of this area and this Hub provides information to link Heybridge Basin to Goldhanger, Beeleigh and Maldon.

"Visitors can come at any time of year and explore the coast and the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation.”

Mr Bass and Bob Boyce chairman of the council’s community services committee, unveiled the Tollesbury hub.

Mr Bass said: “We have great natural and manmade assets and attractions in our area for residents and visitors to enjoy. “We want to promote these widely and show how fantastic time spent in the Maldon District can be, at any age and for all interests.”

Mr Boyce added: “While we want to help people discover more Saltmarsh Coast, and this new hub seeks to inspire visitors and locals to do so, it also asks that they do this responsibly, by keeping to the footpaths, keeping their dogs under effective control and not littering.”
