JAM factory bosses have submitted fresh plans for 27 homes after a previous bid was turned down.
Wilkin & Sons want to build the development between Brook Close and Strawberry Lane in Tolleshunt Knights.
In the summer, Maldon Council rejected the plans over fears the homes would alter the open character of the village, a lack of affordable housing and a potential risk of flooding.
The plans were also opposed by Tolleshunt Knights Parish Council and 50 residents who objected.
In the new scheme, the developers are hoping for a mixture of apartments, bungalows and houses with 40 per cent ringfenced for affordable housing.
In a planning statement the factory operators say they are hoping to expand and increase the number of jobs they offer across the next decade and want to help provide homes for potential future employees.
It said: “The development provides a windfall opportunity for proportionate housing growth of one the more sustainably positioned villages in Maldon.
“The site is located outside the settlement boundary of Tolleshunt Knights however, provides an opportunity to round off and complete the village envelope in this location.”
A decision is expected by December 12.
