BRAVE youngsters came to the aid of an elderly woman who broke her hip after falling over when crossing a road.

Hayden Falk, 11, and Reese Falk, seven, were playing outside on Glebe Way, Burnham when a 95-year-old lady fell over when crossing the end of the road.

After the lady cried out from severe pain, Hayden and Reese dashed over to the woman, with Reese staying with her to comfort and reassure her while Hayden ran back to their house in Glebe Way for help.

Their mother Becky then phoned the ambulance service who came to the woman’s aid.

She was taken to Broomfield Hospital and remains in their care after it was revealed she broke her hip.

Diane Soanes, Hayden and Reese’s grandmother, said: “It really was a case of the two of them being in the right place at the right time. It was a very quiet day, if they hadn’t seen her fall, no one would have known she was there for some time.

“We’re so proud of how brave Hayden and Reese were.

“Some kids their age may have simply panicked and run off, but instead as soon as they saw she was in trouble they ran over to help her.

“Reese is only seven, yet he stayed with her when Hayden ran for help and kept her calm, an incredible thing for someone so young to do.

“The woman is on the mend in hospital, and she’s already sent the boys some flowers to thank them for helping her.

“They’ve done a wonderful thing and I hope they are proud of themselves. There’s a lot of bad news around and it is great to give them some very much deserved recognition.”

The incident took place earlier this month.
