MALDON’S famous carnival returns next week after being brought back from the brink by volunteers.

At the start of the year, Maldon Carnival was officially cancelled. The Carnival Committee did not have enough volunteers to organise such a big event and after many appeals to the public the end of this historic event looked near.

Once announced, the shocked residents of Maldon came forward to help, and a new committee was formed, who have worked hard to make this year’s carnival bigger and better than ever.

The carnival procession has been a Maldon tradition for more than 100 years.

In the lead up to the big day on Saturday August 5, the committee have lots of activities for the community to enjoy at the Lower Plume School, including Family Boot Camp, Children’s Fun Time, Bonniest Baby Competition, Animal Petting Zoo, Car Treasure Hunt, Children’s Arts & Crafts, Cash Bingo, Family Fun Quiz, and Inflatables.

On procession day, it will start at 2.15pm at Cross Road and includes marching bands, carnival queens, local clubs and community groups and floats from local businesses. The procession route follows Fambridge Road up the High Street then down to Promenade Park.

Straight after the procession will be the brand new ‘Party on the Plume’.

At 4pm The BIG Sing get the party started by uniting all the Maldon primary aged school children for an amazing mass performance of Robbie Williams ‘Love My Life’.

Mascots Tiny the Monkey and Soul the Lion will be showing the kids some dance moves as The BIG Sing continues to entertain people with their uplifting singing.

The party continues on the Plume with bouncy castles, Snakey Sue Encounter, craft stalls, facepainting, fitness tent, show cars, licensed bar, local Head Teachers soak, photobooth, food stalls and music running until 8pm.
