A POPULAR mum who has spent the last three years in hospitals and nursing homes after suffering a horrific fall is finally set to return home.

Lisa Aydon, 44, was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge after falling down the stairs of her home in Albert Road, Burnham in April 2014.

Medics saved the mum-of-three’s life but her injuries mean she has spent much of the last three years spent living under the care of The Lawns Nursing Home in Chelmsford.

Mrs Aydon, a family support worker at Burnham Primary School who became a qualified teacher shortly before the accident, has been given the all-clear to move back home.

But the Burnham Rugby Club stalwart cannot return until a wet room and safety ramps are installed to make the home wheelchair accessible.

Lisa’s friends Brenda Manning, Amanda Johnson and Jerry Mecoy along with her mother Gene have set up a fundraising page and gathered tradesmen to help transform her home and make her comfortable.

Brenda said: “This is a huge community effort to help give back some of the love Lisa gave to Burnham.

“The funds raised from the page will help us transform Lisa’s home into the most comfortable living space possible so she can live a really happy life. This could well turn into the DIY SOS of Burnham.”

“We’re hoping that she’ll be able to come home in June. I’ve visited her often and she’s been so strong, she desperately wants to come home to her three boys.”

Jerry added: “The response has, unsurprisingly, been overwhelming.

We have the redesigns of her home covered as so many tradesmen came forward.

“Lisa was everywhere in Burnham.

It didn’t matter what issue there was, Lisa would nearly always be there for people. One day you’d see her flying off in one direction, then catch her helping at the other side of town later in the day.”

The fundraising page has raised more than £1,500.
