A MAN in his 80s has died after he crashed his moped into parked cars.
The crash happened outside the library in Wivenhoe High Street at around 12.50pm this afternoon.
The ambulance service reported the man suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and Essex Police have since confirmed the man has now sadly died.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Police were called to reports of an RTC in High Street, Wivenhoe at around 1.05pm today.
"A moped had been in collision with a number of parked vehicles.
"Emergency services attended.
"It is believed the rider, a man in his 70s, was taken ill."
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We received a call at 12.55pm to respond to reports of a road traffic collision on High Street, Wivenhoe, arriving on scene within 10 minutes.
"We sent rapid response vehicle, ambulance officer, ambulance crew and air ambulance to a treat a male patient."
The road was blocked in both directions for several hours but has now re-opened.
