HUNDREDS of Morris dancers demonstrated the traditional art when they performed in front of packed crowds.

Dancers filled the Grove Shopping Centre, in Witham to perform for crowds.

The event was organised by the Maldon-based Alive and Kicking Morris Dancing group which formed in 1992.

Squire Ruth Teverson said: “It went very well. We had 14 sides representing four different traditions of Morris dancing.

“There were a minimum of 200 dancers and musicians and each side had at least ten people.

“We have done it in Witham every year for five years but we are having a break next year.

“Witham is a good place for Morris dancers because the floor is very flat and hard.”
