A MUM has told of the moment when she fled from a holiday caravan after an intruder burst in.
Karley Slade was staying at the Martello Beach Holiday Park in Jaywick with her five-month-old and 17-month-old children.
In the early hours of the morning, she heard a man’s voice claiming to be Essex Police.
She did not open up but the forceful banging continued until a hooded man burst through the front door.
Miss Slade, 37, of Heybridge, said: “As I ran towards the other end of the caravan to get out of the back door, he was coming in.
“My babies had already woken up and were crying - I was pleading with him to not hurt us.
“He kicked the door with such force and was standing in the living room looking at me and laughing as I tried to leave the caravan.
“My handbag was stolen with my car keys, house keys, a watch and some money.”
Miss Slade has also raised concerns about the level of security on the site.
She added: “There was some CCTV of the break-in I was allowed to see and on it you can see the man rummaging through the bag.
“I was refunded £99 from customer services but it’s not about the money, it’s a serious crime.”
A spokesperson for Martello Beach said: “We are aware and confident our park team handled this isolated incident with the safety of our customers as a priority and we are working closely with police to provide all information possible to support their investigation.”
The burglary happened on last Saturday at about 4am.
Police are looking for a man in his late twenties, about 6ft, who was wearing dark denim jeans, a dark hoody and dark jacket.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Clacton police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
