DOZENS of drivers were pulled over for failing to wear a seatbelt within the space of a day thanks to a successful road safety crackdown.
Police officers acting on Operation Nash/Surround-a-town captured the 54 illegal drivers without seatbelts on March 13.
The multi-agency operation also led to 26 cars being recorded doing excessive speeds in Frinton, Walton and Weeley with a further 90 speeding on the A133, in Elmstead Market, and seven on the A120, in Ardleigh.
Six vehicles were seized for having no insurance, five drivers were reported for having no insurance and there were four mobile phone offences.
There was also one arrest for illegal entry into the UK and two incidents of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "Operation Nash/Surround-a-town was launched to provide a focus around road safety and those who use the roads, and bring harm to our communities.
"All ANPR cameras across the area were monitored and additional support was provided by the local community speed watch groups."
