A MURDER suspect has been remanded into custody after being charged with stabbing 23-year-old Danny Myers to death.

Kevin Paddick appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday, via video link from HM Chelmsford Prison.

The unemployed 34-year-old confirmed his identity before Judge Charles Gratwicke remanded him into custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on May 12.

Paddick, of Rosemary Road, Clacton is yet to enter a plea but a provisional trial date has been set for two to three weeks in August.

Police were called to Rochford Road, St Osyth at about 4.45am on Monday.

Officers tried to save the life of Mr Myers from Enfield when they arrived.

They carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim until paramedics arrived.

Mr Myers had suffered injuries to his chest and neck.

He was rushed to Colchester General Hospital but later died.

A post mortem examination revealed the cause of death was a stab wound to his heart.

In a statement his family said: "The family are devastated and in shock. They can't believe what's happened.

"Danny was a good boy, a loving son, brother, dad and partner.”

A 29-year-old woman from Clacton was arrested on suspicion of murder but later released without charge.

Paddick, who was on the run at the time, was later arrested, questioned and charged before he appeared at Chelsmford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and Chelmsford Crown Court yesterday.
