Essex Police Acting Assistant Chief Constable Andy Prophet said flags will by flying at half-mast today in memory of PC Keith Palmer, the Metropolitan Police officer killed in the attack yesterday.

He said: "The family, friends and colleagues of PC Keith Palmer and other victims of yesterday’s terrorist attack in Westminster remain in our thoughts and prayers today.

"Flags across the force are set to half-mast in tribute and remembrance.

"In Essex today, and in to the weekend, Essex Police officers and staff, including the Special Constabulary are doing their duty, working on extended shifts to provide a highly visible policing presence. This includes additional armed patrols across the county.

"I would like to personally thank all the brave men and women in Essex Police and all other emergency services across the country for all the amazing work they are doing following yesterday’s tragic events.

"The current threat to the UK from international terrorism remains at ‘Severe’.

"This means that an attack in the UK is ‘highly likely’ but at this time there is no specific information linking any threat to Essex.

"My message to the public is be alert but there is no reason for you to be alarmed.

"If you are concerned call us on 101 or in an emergency call 999.
