A MAN in his nineties will be left with no-one to help him go about his life after a social care service is withdrawn this month.

George Clayton, 92, who has lived in Heybridge for 15 years, relies on his carer from One Support to take him to appointments, manage his money and help him get about his house.

As of March 31, Mr Clayton, who lives in sheltered housing, will be without a carer when County Hall withdraws One Support.

George’s daughter, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s a disgrace and totally unacceptable what will happen to my father.

“No-one should have to deal with this.

“He’s relied on his carer for nine years now, getting him to appointments and helping him out with his money management.

“It’s got to the stage now where she’s not just a carer for him, they’ve have built up a great relationship and are very good friends, but with the cutbacks to One Support she won’t ever be able to visit him again.

“The bluntness of this cut is so profound, it’s as if the council have not even spared a single thought for how vulnerable people will cope without the service they’ve relied on for years. It’s despicable.”

George’s daughter will not be able to care for her father herself once the carer from One Support stops, and she does not know how he will be able to cope on his own at his age.

She added: “My father is getting on now and doesn’t go anywhere far by himself, while he is in sheltered housing he needed his carer’s help to live.”
