EVERYONE had a flipping good time at Coggeshall’s annual pancake race.

Despite the wet weather, 21 children braved the conditions and took part in races across three age groups.

The annual event, that started in 2010, has become one of the most unusual in the town’s calendar and spectators gathered to watch the races on Shrove Tuesday.

Competitors turned up with their frying pan and pancakes in hand ready to start the races from outside the clock tower on Stoneham Street.

Winners received pancake themed prizes for their efforts.

Hazel Picknell-Stride, who helps organise the event every year, said: “We were down a few numbers because it started to rain just as we were about to get going.

“All the kids who took part had a great time.

“It is an annual event and everyone in the town likes to take part or watch.

“We didn’t have any adult racers this year because they were probably scared of the weather but we had quite a few spectators cheering everyone on.”
