A MAN fighting cancer had vital medication stolen from his bag by the “lowest of the low”.

The victim had the drugs in his pharmacy medication bag enclosed in his black bag inside under the table by his feet when the medication was taken.

He was in a café in Headgate, Colchester, at the time.

Mike Lilley, (Lab) Colchester councillor responsible for safer communities, said: “This really is the lowest of the low.

“I don’t understand it. They are stealing belongings from someone who is having treatment for a life changing illness.

“This is a terrible thing for anyone suffering from any kind of illness to deal with.

“Hopefully this man will recover. But to add insult to injury some low life has now stolen this man’s belongings too.”

The incident happened on Friday, January 6 at around midday.

Mr Lilley said the thief obviously knew what it was they were stealing because it was in a marked bag.

He said: “This has obviously been done by someone with a drug addiction who thinks this is a quick way of putting drugs into their body they are desperate for.

“Unfortunately he won’t read the newspaper, but whoever they are they clearly need help and to be caught.

“There are plenty of people in Colchester who can help if they ask for it.

“Obviously this has been reported to police and CCTV can go through the coverage of it and track the person who did this.

“But people need to remember to protect their belongings.

“Keep them hidden from view at all times. Opportunists will always see them and think there’s something in there they can sell or take for themselves.”
