A DRIVER fled the scene after smashing a car into a house.
Police were called to reports of a crash in Honeysuckle Way, Witham, at about 6.40pm yesterday.
The driver of the vehicle, who was described as "drunk" by witnesses, ploughed into the home of Rob Borgman, 62.
Mr Borgman, a HGV driver, said: "He must have been doing about 50 or 60mph and he didn't even bother turning.
"The police looked at his front wheels but the marks show they were straight, he didn't even attempt to turn.
"The neighbours said they heard a big bang and a crash then they were all talking to the man. He wandered down to the shop to his mate and got in his car and drove off."
Two fire crews from Witham also attended and made the scene safe by 7.38pm.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Essex Police on 101.
