A MUM is trying to find a hit and run driver who crashed into her car while she was on the school run with her three children.

Danielle Bullard, 25, was in her Ford Fiesta in Shrub End Road, Colchester, waiting at traffic lights when she noticed a silver Vauxhall coming up behind her.

She was initially sure the car would stop but as it got closer, she told her children, Aaliyah, three, Lexi, five, and Mia, eight, to brace themselves for the shunt.

Both the mum-of-three and Mia are suffering the effects of delayed shock after the car hit them. Mia also has neck and shoulder injuries.

Carer Miss Bullard got out out of her car to speak to the Vauxhall driver but when she told him she would be contacting the police and her insurance company, he ran back to his car, turned around and sped off along the road towards Gosbecks Archaeological site.

Essex Police are now searching for the man using a photograph of the car taken by Miss Bullard at the scene.

She said: “I was in the car and I could see this car coming up behind me.

“I kept saying to the girls: ‘He’s going to stop. He’s bound to stop.’ but he didn’t.”

As the car crashed, Mia turned herself around to watch. Her mum believes that is how she suffered her injuries.

She has not been at school since the crash which happened last Friday afternoon at about 3.45pm.

Miss Bullard, who lives in Shrub End, added: “He actually did initially get out.

“He said ‘sorry’ three times. I was pretty irate to be fair because I had the children in the car.

“He asked me: ‘How are you going to do this?’ I said we’d call the police and get on to the insurance companies.

“As soon as I said that, he jumped back into the car and U-turned and sped off in the opposite direction to where he was initially going.”

Miss Bullard said she did not believe the driver had insurance.

She is now considering paying for the damage privately in a bid to avoid a rise in her own insurance premium.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police received a call about an road traffic accident in Shrub End Road, Colchester at around 3.50pm on Friday, December 2.

“Two vehicles had been in collision at a set of traffic lights.

“The drivers got out of their vehicles to exchange details and engaged in conversation.

“One of the drivers then got back into their car before details were exchanged and drove off.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information on the car involved should contact Essex Police on 101.
