HUNDREDS of people flocked together to see the Christmas light switch-on in Clacton.

Crowds were treated to four hours of singing and dancing entertainment as part of the festive celebrations in the town.

The official switch-on of the town’s lights was performed by former X Factor star Stevi Ritchie.

The Colchester star, who is also be appearing as Chester the Jester in Sleeping Beauty at the Princes Theatre in Clacton, also introduced some of his pantomime co-stars at the lively and colourful event.

This year, the evening saw almost 50 illuminated solar powered Christmas trees light up the town.

Entertainment was provided by the Royalette Twirling Team, Clacton Ukuleles and Cl Cheerleaders.

There was also music from singers Gabrielle, Tracy Moorhouse, Essex Vocal Services, Tuppence and trio Stu Ross, Viv and Lawrie.

Clacton Town Traders Association chairman Graham Webb said there was a great feel good factor about the event and he said the excited crowds enjoyed themselves on the night.

He said: “I am very pleased with how the evening went with the new lighting, everybody pulling together and all of the singers performing superbly.”
