POLLING stations are now open for three separate elections in the Maldon district today.

Elections are being held for a Burnham town councillor, a Heybridge parish councillor, and a Maldon district councillor.

The town councillor position for Burnham South Ward has three candidates; Vanessa Bell, independent, Natalie Bettany, also independent, and Julie Cleverley of the Conservative Party.

The parish councillor position for Heybridge West Ward has the candidates of Chrisy Morris of the activist group Fighting Unsustainable Housing Because We Care and Sofia Bishop.

The position of district councillor for Maldon West Ward has a total of six candidates; Janet Carden of the Green Party, Andrew Francis of UKIP, Martin Harvey of the Conservatives, Flo Shaughnessy, independent, John Sweeney of Labour and Richard Perry of Fighting Unsustainable Housing Because We Care.

People can vote for the district councillor position at West Maldon Community Centre, Sunbury Way (Off Keeble Park), Maldon, the Heybridge parish councillor position at Plantation Hall on Colchester Road, and the town council offices on Chapel Road in Burnham for the Burnham town councillor position.

Voting is open today from 7am to 10pm, with the results expected on Friday morning.
