REPLACEMENT goalposts for a set deemed the saddest in the county made their debut in a charity match.
The posts in Montgomery Park, Colchester, were replaced after Vanessa Lucas, husband Kevin and twin sons Sam and Lewis entered the old the old ones in a competition run by sports equipment company Harrod UK.
The posts were selected to be replaced and were used in a match between an Army team and military housing provider Carrilion Amey. The field is close to Colchester’s army barracks.
The Army won 20-11. As part of the occasion, money from a non-uniform day at Montgomery Infant’s School raised £250 to be split between the Sick Children’s Trust and military charity SSAFA.
Natalie Richardson, who runs a company called Green Petal Parties, provided a bouncy castle as a last-minute replacement.
