TRAINEES working to become the next generation of museum staff have picked up a top award.

Participants from the Training Museum programme, run by the Colchester and Ipswich Museum Service, won the Arts and Cultural Learning prize on offer from the Suffolk Adult Learners Awards held at University Campus Suffolk.

Judges were impressed by how the trainees had clearly achieved well beyond expectations, citing their enthusiasm and excitement for building a museum career.

The programme sees people who have never worked in the industry before gain hands-on experience working alongside various teams within the museum service and receiving grounded vocational training in a range of specialisms.

Colchester Council's culture boss Tim Young said: "I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to every one of the winners for picking up this prestigious award.

"Their success is not only a testament to their individual hard work and enthusiasm, but also to the inspirational teaching The Training Museum staff delivers throughout this wonderful and innovative programme."
