HEROIC workers have described their hectic ordeal after tending to victims of a motorbike crash in Bradwell-on-Sea.

Two motorcyclists were taken to hospital in a serious condition following a crash on Trusses Road, Bradwell-on-Sea, on Sunday May 22 shortly after 6.10pm.

The road is near to Magnox Power Station, where workers heard the crash and rushed over to help the victims before emergency services reached the scene.

Chris Synnott, a power station worker, said: “When I arrived on scene there were no emergency services there just power station staff giving first aid, then the fire crew turned up 10 minutes or so after I did.

“I personally didn't help out with the first aid stuff as I'm not trained, but I and a few others went down after everyone had left and clean up the accident and the oil on the road.”

Fellow station worker Finbar Tubby was on his way into work when he came across the incident.

He said: “I was on my way into work and arrived at the scene about ten minutes after the other workers initially got there, which was around 6.30pm.

“I and three or four of the other power station workers tended the patients and the fire service arrived soon after I did, and all of us helped the crews tend to both patients.

“Once the patients were taken away by the ambulance crews the fire crew were called off to another job, so we stayed behind with the police while they cleared up the crash site and did their investigations.”

The two patients have not been named and were last reported to be in a critical condition with ‘life-changing’ injuries.

Finbar added: “There was a mix of the fire crew and power station workers helping the wounded, and it was all handled very professionally. Between our efforts it was quite smooth.”
