A DRIVER was caught travelling at 80mph in a 30mph zone during a crackdown on speeding drivers in Maldon.
A policing team carried out speed checks across Maldon and Heybridge on Friday night in a bid to target offenders.
The Essex Road Policing Team was carrying out the speed patrol as part of their ongoing project to target speeding and boy racers following concerns from residents and councillors.
One driver was caught travelling at 80mph on Goldhanger Road in Heybridge.
The driver was reported for dangerous driving and excess speed and will be sent summons to court.
It follows on from a crackdown held earlier this year when 101 drivers were caught speeding in Maldon in one night.
On Friday night checks were carried out in Park Drive, Holloway Road and Fambridge Road.
Adam Pipe, casualty reduction officer for Essex Police, said: “A police car was behind the vehicle at the time of the offence.
“The individual has been reported for dangerous driving and excess speed on Friday night.
“We have been done some checks in Park Drive, Holloway Road and Fambridge Road and also in Burnham.
“It is all part of the continued emphasis and presence around the Maldon District in response to casualty data.
“With young driver issues around the Maldon area our presence is there giving some level of reassurance that we are targeting offenders.
“I am going to be taking out some of the councillors on Friday which will be an opportunity to give them an idea of what we are doing in the Maldon district.”
