A JOBS fair was held by Braintree Council for job seekers looking to change careers.

Visitors were able to meet employers including the NHS and Stansted Airport, and were able to get advice on CV writing and employment.

The minister for employment and Witham MP Priti Patel said: “I am really pleased to hear that Jobcentre Plus and Braintree District Council have put this Jobs Fair together.

“Even with employment rates at an all time high it is still important that we continue to have events like these, matching employers with those looking for jobs and opportunities.”

Tom Cunningham, cabinet member for economic development, said it was encouraging unemployment is very low.

He said: “We wanted to hold this event alongside the job centre to get our local experts and employers in one place for a one stop shop of career and employment advice and job opportunities.

“We’re lucky in our district to have some great businesses which provide great jobs. We hope the event will result in matching up our residents with a new job or career.”

Stuart Brown, Department for Work and Pensions Operations Manager for Mid Essex Jobcentres, said Braintree has seen a 21 per cent reduction in unemployment in the last year.

The event, organised by the council and Braintree Job Centre, was held at Causeway House in Bocking End on Friday.
