YOUNG Albert Davis' first trip on a boat was one to remember as it took him up close to two seals.

His dad, Jamie, who is a sergeant in the 3rd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, took his wife, Enise, and his 16-month-old son, Albert, out on his fishing boat on Saturday.

He said: "As we went out from Mersea Island there was a seal messing about on the pontoon.

"We sailed to Rowhedge and then went into Colchester as far as East Hill.

"As we were coming back near to the Lightship, we saw another seal playing about.

"We could not believe it. We have been there a few times but never seen a seal so far up the stream.

"It was a nice surprise. Albert loved it."

Braintree and Witham Times:

Julia Cable, from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, said: "At the moment, it is just past pupping time so there are youngsters about.

"If the seal is in the water, it should be absolutely fine.

"They will also haul themselves out on to the land when they want to rest.

"It is only a problem when they are injured or thin and then if someone has a concern they can call us on 01825 765546."
