A LARGE number of travellers from central Europe have pitched up on council land near Colchester Leisure World, in Cowdray Avenue.
About 20 caravans arrived on land, adjoining the skate park on one side and McDonald’s on the other.
One of the travellers, who called himself Jonny, said they had arrived from Germany and would be staying until Sunday.
He declined to speak any further to the Gazette.
Essex Police, Colchester Council and the McDonald’s franchisee were contacted for comments but did not respond before the Gazette deadline.
